Match on Match action

Match on Match action

Match on match action is where you use two shots to make one long shot. For example the first shot can be of someone throwing a punch and the next shot can be of the punch landing, the two shots are then made into one shot so it looks like one long shot of someone getting punched. this can give a realistic look of someone being punched. so match on match action is two or more shots made to look like one long shot through editing it is a technique perfected by Jackie Chan.

Match on match action is generally used in most scene involving contact such as fighting. It is used when a character throws a punch which will make contact with the character aimed for the punch is thrown but is cut before contact, the next shot is either parallel or at a different angle entirely and then the fist makes contact. Jackie Chan uses a method where when he throws a punch the camera cuts yet show the fist from two frames back from the previous shot, this is so the audience this the punch looks stronger or harder, Jackie Chan has used this technique through out his career and it gives his action a more realistic look. This link show how Jackie Chan uses his technique to create action comedy using match on match action.
